Blushing

Otherwise known as erythrophobia, can be a source of great distress to someone who begins to experience it as a habitual occurrence. This happens a lot more generally to younger people and particularly teenagers when it can occur in relation to embarrasment about sexual attraction, but with some people it can remain into adult life and be a source of geat discomfort.

The essential belief of anyone who has a problem with blushing is I must not blush . This belief is 100% guaranteed to create a problem with blushing and to ensure that you blush religiously in every situation where you think you shouldn't be blushing. If you look at the reasons why you think you shouldn't blush they all boil down to being afraid of becoming the centre of attention. What is disturbing about this is that you feel that when people's attention is on you that they must see you as someone who is cool calm confident etc. What is disturbing about that is you feel that if you blush they will see you as someone who is inadequate. The disturbing thing about this is that that is actually what you believe about yourself and the fact that you are blushing proves it.

In fact , all it proves is that there are certain changes taking place in your body chemistry and the same might be said about yawning. So the first step in dissolving the problem is to let go of the belief that I must not blush, because this is what turns the ignition on for blushing, so that you are already primed for blushing even if nothing is going to arise that would be realistically be embarrasing to you in any way.

The whole idea of hypnosis here is to create a relaxation response that is triggered by the anxious uncomfortable self conscious feelings themselves. You accept the feelings, they are workable, you are not afraid of them, you immediately allow youself to experience a powerful sense of calm relaxation at the very first sign of any of those supposedly disturbing feelings arising. In this way you begin to inhibit all the feelings around blushing. The sub conscious will begin to recieve impressions now that something else is required other than the blushing response, the habitual reaction starts to be modified and eventually dissolved. Nothing else works.
