You may have noticed that it sometimes happens in your life that you make a decision to do something, but somehow you are never able to carry that decision forward properly. That decision was made at a conscious level, but there was some sub conscious part of yourself which was not on board with that decision so the goal never arrives. So it is with weight loss. All your good intentions at the start of a new diet or regime somehow always tail off in the end and you find yourself eventually back at square one. Part of of you is still invested in your old ways of eating and will swing you straight back into those whenever your determination flags. You may also have noticed that sometimes you will make a decision to do something and you will follow through on that decision and your goal will, at some point, materialize. Generally you can tell when you have made a decision like this. It has a very distinctive flavour. You have an inner conviction that seems very strong, so that you can already contemplate actually having actually achieved that goal, which is actually very pleasurable. Then the whole process of getting to that place becomes an ongoing source of pleasure as you see your goal gradually begin to appear in your life. Every part of your mind and body becomes integrated in this pleasure creating process. You could say that the pleasure you experience in moving towards your goal is a bit like nourishing yourself on a wonderfully satisfying food, which appears in just the right quantity as you move along, never too much, never too little, just the right amount.This type of decision is the one that we develop using hypnotherapy. The essential point about hypnotherapy as applied to weight loss is that it is aimed at changing the programming of a persons eating habits at a sub-conscious level.The part of you that is going to feel empty when it is accustomed to having its treats is the part that hypnotherapy speaks to. We do not ask it to totally abandon those foods that give you genuine pleasure, simply to make you more attentive to the whole process of giving yourself a genuine treat and actually relishing each mouthful rather than cramming volume into your mouth in a sort of guilt driven frenzy immediately followed by an orgy of self-disgust. Eating naturally and enjoying good nourishing food is central to the whole process of normalizing your weight and this should not even discount the wickedness of chocolate occasionally if chocolate is something you truly enjoy. So we bring about a rather deep awareness of where you want to go and how you're going to do it. We also generate very strong orientation at a sub-conscious level of how you're going to look and feel in six months time.We persuade the subconscious to take on this orientation and begin to pull you towards it rather than away from it. It may be helpful to discover where, in the past, you began to lay down a pattern of over eating, what caused this and how that pattern was subsequently developed as a way of coping. Sometimes insight into the source of the weight problem can loosen the compulsion. Doing this via the trance can shift your awareness in a more vivid and immediate way than your conscious mind alone is able to do. |
